Visionary and leader for the Cornerstone project
2005->
Visionary and leader for the Cornerstone project
The Cornerstone technology platform for Churches and ministries has been a passion of mine since late 2005. To date, it's the largest project I have both initiated and managed both with regard to funding and the number of people involved in the work. Cornerstone is a merger between modern web 2.0+ user interfaces and content management tools, with a strong social media core and the strength in its module architecture to facilitate all kinds of applications up to and including ERP level functions for Churches, missions and ministries. The project has been a truly international effort with a base team in Norway, Russia and the Ukraine, but with efforts from France, USA, Costa Rica, Argentina, Afghanistan, Iran and Indonesia.
CEO of Kommunion inc.
2000->
CEO of Kommunion inc.
I founded Kommunion inc. in 2000. The vision of the company is to create web based solutions where Christians are Created, Connected and Developed. Kommunion is the Norwegian partner of the Global Christian Internet Alliance under the leadership of Christianity Today (evangelical magazine founded by Billy Graham). We make very popular Bible games for kids in nearly 20 languages and with world wide distribution, we run the successful company Ecclesia Systems inc., and we founded and run the Cornerstone project, and work to make it stand on its own feet as a new company some time soon. Kommunion has received the Gazelle award from Dun&Bradstreet for rapid and sustainable growth. Through Kommunion, I occasionally also do consulting appointments for concerns of strategy, change management and identity issues.
VP of Marketing&PR for the Glory event
2004-2005
VP of Marketing&PR for the Glory event
Glory was an extravagant worship party at the night of January 1st 2005. All through 2004, I had the responsibility of handling all PR, information and marketing for the Glory event. We produced logos, slogans, profile elements and all sorts of promotional material and ran campaigns - including a song for attracting attention to the vision of the venue. With very limited budgets, our responsibility was simply to make sure that at least 5,000 people showed up. Well, guess what, we ended up with 5,600! Praise God!
CEO of Ecclesia Systems inc.
1996-1997 & 2000->
CEO of Ecclesia Systems inc.
In 1996-1997 I did transitional leadership for Ecclesia Systems, and I came more fully on board from 2000. In late 2001, we started pondering the reinvention of the company, and aired the possibility of building a web based third generation cemetery system. In the time to follow, we rebranded the company from the old name Troll Data to Ecclesia Systems (meaning Church Systems), and in 2003 we started the development of the new web based cemetery management system. In 2004, the system was released, and we also bought our largest competitor through a very favourable deal. In 2009, the company has 238 clients with a market share of about 70%. The revenues have been more than five doubled since I took over, and the client satisfaction is significantly higher. From the 10 biggest clients in our segment in Norway, we have all but one. The ecclesia cemetery system helps send out invoices for the Church of Norway for more than 70 M USD each year.
Research scientist at the University of Oslo
1997-2000
Research scientist at the University of Oslo
For three years, I had a full scholarship from the Research Council of Norway to work on a project called GOODS - General Object Oriented Distributed Systems. We worked on language mechanisms to deal with mobility in programming languages so that active and running programs themselves could move between networks and servers without interruption. My first mentor in the project was Professor Kristen Nygaard - the founder of Object Oriented Programming. Since Kristen unfortunately didn't get all the required funds for the project, and I was the only one with personal funding for this, I ended up focusing on a different area - database schema management in complex and changing application development projects.
Systems developer for the Norwegian Armed Forces Headquarters
1996-1997
Systems developer for the Norwegian Armed Forces Headquarters
I worked with personell applications for defence purposes - all the way from specifications with the AD/Method process and database design for Oracle servers through to developing a major application in Oracle Designer and Oracle Developer. I was instrumental in laying the architectural foundations, and was even cited in strategic IT documents signed by the Norwegian Chief of Defence's office. The appointment to this project started out as a draft service as a private soldier, and ended as me being hired back afterwards as a free lance consultant.
Senior Systems developer for Ecclesia Systems inc.
1993-2004
Senior Systems developer for Ecclesia Systems inc.
Ecclesia Systems inc. was established by my father and another partner in 1983. One of the early products was a MS-DOS based cemetery management system that my father made. He became aware of this need while being the chairman of the board for our local Church. In Norway, the Church of Norway handles all cemeteries on behalf of the government. In 1993, I reprogrammed this system as a Windows application in the DBMS 4GL tool Paradox from Borland. It was a big job with more than a 100 forms and more than 100,000 lines of handwritten code. The system included logical maps (GIS wannabe), invoicing, funds management, CRM etc. At the most, this system had about 160 clients.
